I know a lot of people (including me) have embraced e-reader and e-book technologies. But not everyone has. I still get snail mail letters from a few readers who don't even have computers.
Yes, my old titles are still out there somewhere, being sold used, both online and in musty used bookstores. Either they sell for a few cents, or once in a while I'll come across one of my books that is going for some ridiculous price like $50 because it's "new" (i.e., never read). So I began to wonder if some readers who are new to me and don't have an e-reader would be interested in new paperback versions. And I decided the best way to figure that out would be to take the question to you.
If you don't buy e-books, would you be interested in seeing my back list in new versions? Or do you not much care if a book is yellowed and old because the story is still the same?
Tell me what you think.(P.S. The diet was a bust--of course, most of the time they are.)
Hi Alexis--I've been reading your blog for about a year and have enjoyed your posts. As you know, I have long admired your writing and have your entire backlist in hard copy. I have yet to read an ebook although I have read ebooks in hardcopy. No, I don't have a Kindle or a Nook. And reading an ebook at my computer is just not a relaxing experience so I avoid it.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm from the old school of technology. I love the feel and texture of a book, its physical presence. If I didn't already have your old titles, I would hunt them down. I would find nice copies of them used, but not at an exorbitant price (because I don't own or read ratty old books). It's an aesthetic thing. I guess I'm somewhat of a book connoisseur or a collector. And my eye is always drawn to a good cover because book covers are like paintings. Many of your older titles have beautiful book covers. The best way to behold a book cover is if the book is in fine, nearly fine, or new condition--which comprises most of my books.
Someone like me would definitely be interested in a paperback version of your books. Besides, the researcher in me likes to highlight and mark up my books and I don't think that can be done with an ebook so that's another reason why I like to read hard copy books.
